VERNAL POND, MONOCHROME - BACKUS WOODS, NORFOLK COUNTY - LARRY'S TENSET, 2014

By the tail end of November, most of the leaves and pine needles in Backus Woods have fallen onto the ground. Because we had a wet year, there were many water-filled ponds in the woods as well. In this photo, the light toned leaves and needles are floating on the water or visible on the ground through the clear water. The dark trunks are reflections in the water of the surrounding woods. I love the mystery and ambiguity of this image which turns a commonplace scenario on its ear.
