RIVER OF ROCK - ACADIA NP, MAINE

photograph by larry monczka
I feel good about this photograph for a few reasons. It took some physical effort to very slowly clamber and crawl over some slippery boulders near the ocean shore of Maine towards my planned shot. Once there, my first idea didn't pan out, but I noticed the subtle flow of rocks around the larger stones and realized that my fall back composition was much more interesting and subtle than the scenario that drew my eye in the first place. Opening my visual awareness to what was there and overcoming expectations made me feel that I had learned an important lesson.
