SAND/FENCE/SHADOW - LONG POINT BEACH

photograph by larry monczka
From past experience, I knew that a wind storm on the beach would wipe away footprints and create a smooth sand surface for shadows. Since a bright winter sun was predicted that same day, I braved the blowing sand, hoping that the afternoon light would cast a well defined shadow of the sand fence. Because the shadow was so interesting in itself, I excluded the actual fence from the composition. Conversion of the original capture into monochrome removed the distraction of colour, allowing the graphic complexity to become the subject.
