While walking along the dyke at Big Creek I noticed that a male Red-winged Blackbird used this pole as a regular perch from which to scan the marsh and make his vocal presence known. I was reminded of the poet Maya Angelou's insight: "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song".
