TREES WEEK #18

TREES WEEK #18 - 52 WEEKS - AN ENCOUNTER WITH TREES

Larry asked me to write about his tree image this week, for a change, since we are sharing this project, but mostly because he didn't get around to doing it himself and I bugged him about it!

The timing of this photograph, which was made during the very short interval in spring, when some trees have burst into leaf while others lag by several days, is ideal. The varying rate of growth was well seen and captured by Larry, who arranged the diagonal bands of subtle greens and browns into a composition which is simple and graphic in design, yet remains organic and soft and delicate in mood. I love the pastel tree fuzz in the central band, and really enjoy the fact that the thin lines of tree trunks and branches can still be seen in many places, providing texture and structure. This is a perfect storm of light, subject and treatment!
