KP(upper) A flash freeze had formed a thin layer of glassy ice on the lake at Port Ryerse. Then, the next day, wave action and a strong onshore wind broke apart the ice and piled the shards up onto the beach as if a multitude of windows had been shattered. Just before sunset the pink sky was reflected by some of the panes while the rest remained in blue shade. I decided to take the image in a more abstract direction by reducing structure and contrast to create the impression of brush strokes.
